Jose Alvaro Lopez, 77, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on April 9, 2022, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Jose was born to Pedro and Fedelina Lopez on November 30, 1944, in Los Pinos, NM. After Jose graduated from Sanford High School in 1962, he began working at the A&W Drive-in in Española, NM, where he met his future wife, Diana Montoya. They were married on Valentine's Day in 1964. Jose enlisted in the United States Army on June 30, 1967, and served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. After completing his service with the US Army in 1969, he began working for the City of Albuquerque, where he ultimately became the superintendent of the Albuquerque Waste Water Utility department, retiring in 1994. Jose enjoyed a full retirement, traveling extensively with his family and friends, camping, and fishing with his brothers, and enjoying time with his family.
Jose is preceded in death by his father, Pedro Lopez, mother, Fedelina Lopez, and brothers Albert, Locadio, and Leroy Lopez. He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughters Loretta Zappia (husband Tony) and Laurianne Lopez; son Joseph Lopez (wife Julie); his five grandchildren, Catherine, Christina, Kassandra, Destiny, and Elijah; his five great-grandchildren, Joey, Scarlette, Asa, Bennett Tarzan, and Jack (on the way); step-grandchildren Dominic, Jasmine, and Marisa; his sister Clara Martinez (husband Johnny), and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service honoring the life of Jose will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming. Interment will be held later at Santa Fe National Cemetery on May 23, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
