Jose T. Astorga, 95, beloved dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Astorga. Mr. Astorga was a combat World War II Veteran, who received The Purple Heart and three combat stars. He proudly served in the US Navy as a Pharmacist 3rd Class during World War II on the USS Lanier in the Pacific Theater.
He is survived by his daughters, Cecilia Luna, of Belen, NM and Terry Perea, of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Robert (Tina) Astorga of Los Lunas, NM, Joe (Dorothy) Astorga of Albuquerque, NM, Onofre “Opie” (Monica) Astorga of Dodge City, KS, John (Rosalie) of Moriarty, NM and Jacob Astorga of Moriarty, NM; twenty grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, including three deeply loved great grandchildren, Gabriella Diaz, Ariana Baca and Alonzo Baca. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cherished friends.
Mr. Astorga was a very loving family man, he was a compassionate man who helped his family and friends in any way he could; he was a kind man who took time to talk and get to know others; deeply devoted to his faith, prayed for his loved ones daily and regularly attended mass at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM, he was the teller of great stories, a jokester and a proud Veteran. He will be missed by many.
A Viewing will be held Friday, January 21, 2022, 10:00 a.m., at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 215 Girard St. Moriarty, NM. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass to follow. Burial will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, 10:30 a.m., at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Robert Astorga, Joe Astorga, Onofre Astorga, John Astorga, Jacob Astorga, Daniel Astorga, Robert Tanuz, Manuel Mieras, and Juan Cordova
