J.A. Reynaldo (Rey-Reynie) Montoya age 87 passed from his earthly life to his eternal and everlasting life on December 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Rey was born on May 12, 1937, to Jose Antonio and Sophia Montoya in Bernalillo, NM where he was a long-time resident. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years Roberta. During their life together they built a beautiful family. They had four children Jeff, Renee, Penny, and Dominic (Virginia). Nine Grandchildren, Ashley, Michael (Savannah), Joseph (Amanda), Alicia, Robert (Michelle), Kristina (Dwayne), Amber Ryann, Reyna and Jonathon. He was also blessed with twenty Great Grandchildren. Rey loved his family with his whole heart.
He is also survived by his brother Ronnie and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Antonio and Sophia Montoya, his sisters Marie Arellanes, and Charlotte Silva, his daughter Penny Garcia, and his Grandson Kenny Garcia.
Rey had an unmatched genuine love for Roberta and they shared a special bond. They met at a very young age by chance. It was love at first sight for both of them. They were inseparable and spent their lives together doing for others but always returned to each other with love and devotion. Their marriage was a true love story.
During his younger days, he could be found in the mountains cutting and hauling firewood, his side job. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his constant companion Roberta and his children and grandchildren by his side. He was also known for fixing and remodeling his house, adding a room or a closet here and there. Every room in his house contains a special Rey touch.
His Grandchildren were very special to Rey, he loved them equally. His relationship with his Great-Grandchildren was equally as special. He never missed any of their birthday parties attending one shortly before his death. He looked forward to his Great-Grandchildren stopping in after school to check in on him.
Rey was a Trucker for close to 50 years. He drove for numerous companies before retiring from Chevron. After a short time at home, his son Dominic convinced Rey to drive for him. During school winter and summer breaks, Rey often had one of his grandchildren with him on one of his runs and each has a special memory of those trips with Grandpa. He drove an additional 10 years for D&V Trucking before he decided to stop shifting gears and he retired from driving for good.
Rey will be remembered for his unwavering faith, quiet strength, and infinite patience. No one ever saw Rey angry. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He would make off-handed comments that would often get him scolded by Roberta, but they were always funny. Even near death, he was cracking jokes and after being moved from the Emergency room at Rust Medical Center to the Comfort Care on the fourth floor he announced he was four floors closer to heaven making everyone feel comforted. That was Rey. He was a simple man who did not simply live. The void his family feels can only be filled knowing he is waiting for them to join him with his Lord and Savior.
The Family would like to thank Amber Care Hospice, especially Amber Ryann, and Loa for her kindness, respect, and compassion, Eric for always being there for Rey, and all the other staff members who attended to him.
