Jose Antonio "Tony" Lorenzo Chavez, 86, beloved father, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, April 26, 2024. He entered this world on Sunday, March 20, 1938, in Roy, NM born to Mariano Antonio Chaves and Cresencia Grace Martinez.

Jose is survived by his children, son, Tony and wife, Consuelia Chavez; daughter, Angela and husband, Shaun Reed; and seven grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Hagel, Niya and Cora Chavez, Elijah Yazzie, and Michael and Alyssa Chavez.

Jose, also known as "Tony" by his Roy, NM family was a devoted husband to his late wife, Hazel for 55 years. During that time, he served in the Air Force and the New Mexico Air National Guard, 150th Tactical Fighter Group known as the "Tacos" as a Master Sergeant, Crew Chief/Aircraft Mechanic. He was also a 2nd degree black in the Kajukenbo family under Harry Herrera, whom he worked with at the Guard.

My dad was known as "stern" and direct, but he also had a loving heart and cared so much for others. He had plenty of people in his life that he remained friends with for many years, like Ray and Grace. He also served as a mentor to our cousin Richard Sanchez, and many others. He loved spending time talking with everyone he met, and he loved to joke around. He had a love for God, country, family, and nature. He taught his children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren to hunt, fish, camp, hike, and boat. He loved being a Tata the most, loving on his grandchildren from the moment they took their first breath until he took his last. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, my father prayed to receive Christ and three days later, he went to be with Him in paradise. I can't wait to see you there dad. Until then, you will be greatly missed.

Services for Jose will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Holy Family Parish at 562 Atrisco Dr SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105. A Rosary will start at 8:30 am followed by the Mass at 9:00 am with a reception in the Parish Hall from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
