Jon Walter Munford, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021. Jon was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 11, 1939, to Walter John and Eunice (Detwiler) Munford.
Jon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Starlyn Kay (Weyers) Munford; daughter Kimberly Munford, daughter, and son-in law Lisa (Munford) and Bruce Graham; grandsons Jon Paul Munford-Loughrin, Joseph Munford-Loughrin and Cooper Graham and great-grandson Zayne Loughrin; brother Jim and wife Carol Munford, sister Jeri and husband John Alloway, brother Jeff and wife Julie Munford, brother-in-law Ron and wife Janine Weyers, sister-in-law Jerelyn and husband Verne Savage. Jon is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and a sister-in-law Beverly and husband Jim Anderson.
Jon received his undergraduate degree and his Master of Engineering from the University of Nebraska as well as a Masters of Metallurgy from Iowa State. He was pursuing his PhD when he was recruited by Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, in 1969, where he retired after 34 years in, 2003.
Jon was a Master Bridge Player, and an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed a round of golf, wood-working, reading anything related to math and science and spending time with family and friends.
Jon was fiercely dedicated and devoted to his family. He was always the provider and protector. We all will miss him dearly.
The family requests any donations be made to your favorite charity in Jon's name. A Celebration of Jon's life will be held at a future date.
