John Thomas Williams

John Thomas Williams was born September 27, 1931 in Houston, Texas. Washington DC was his home until 1951 when he left to enlist in the US Air Force.

In 1953 he met the pretty Barbara Matkin in Amarillo, Texas. He chased her until she caught him, and they married in 1954. She is the best thing that ever happened to him. She wanted six children, but he thought two would do, so they settled on four. She said he could name all the girls and she would name all the boys, so they had two of each. Still standing are Bonnie Lucille Hammond, John Kendall Williams, Rebecca Lorine Friedberg and husband Donald, and David Edwards Williams and his wife Cheryl.

John obtained a degree from the University of Texas and joined Sandia National Laboratories in 1959. In 1989 he said goodbye to Sandia after serving as a Division Supervisor in both the military liaison and administrative computing organizations. It was a good thirty years, but the 30+ years in retirement were even better.

As a reader of the Bible, Isaiah 6, verse 8 became his motto. It led him to being active in the Republication Party of New Mexico, as well as in his neighborhood and church. There is still a great deal to do to make this world a better place, so he is leaving behind four wonderful grandchildren to take up where he left off: Matthew and Laura Friedberg, Samantha Williams, and Caitlin Hammond, he’s counting on each one to make a difference.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022, 11 a.m. at FRENCH – Wyoming, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
