Stark, John Paul

John Paul Stark, age 91, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Minnie "Mamie" Stark. Paul was a dedicated family man and was surrounded in death by his loving family, Violet "Vi", his wife of 50 years; his sons, Glenn and Bruce and his daughter-in-law, Carrie. As the oldest living descendant of the Three Sisters of Confluence, Paul also leaves behind many loving relatives in his extended family.
Paul was born in Confluence, PA, January 4, 1924. He graduated from Confluence High School, class of 1941. He later worked as an engine lathe operator and was a private in the 681st Glider Field Artillery during WWII. Paul moved to Albuquerque with his mother after the war. He graduated from the University of New Mexico, earning degrees in Education and Mathematics in 1949 and 1961. Paul taught high school science and mathematics in Tucumcari, NM, and then spent the remainder of his career at Sandia National Laboratories, working as a programmer and systems analyst during the early days of the development of computers.
Paul was a lover of music, frequenting performances by Albuquerque's jazz musicians, and he was an avid hiker and camper who visited national parks and forests across the country that he and Violet loved. He continued challenging himself in rugged terrain well into his eighties and enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors throughout his life.
