John Joseph Standish, 85, of Albuquerque, NM passed away quietly on May 10, 2024.
John was born on January 29, 1939, to Lillian Kazmierczyk and John B. Standish, and lived in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania as a young man. John is survived by his wife, Jean; stepchildren, Lucas, Sonny, Linh, Julia; daughters, Rebecca (Tom) Frock, Gail (Anthony) Standish, and Debra (Doug) Day; and his grandsons, Noah and Lucas Frock. John is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Pat, Tom, Terry, Barry. John is survived by his sister, Mary Ann.
John received his industrial engineering degree from Lehigh University and retired after 30 years with the Amtrak railroad. He loved working on old cars, some of which included a 1953 Buick sedan, several older Porsche 911s, and a few original VW Beetles. He wrote earnest, heartfelt stories of his time spent in Vietnam as a member of the 3rd Radio Research Unit (RRU) in Da Nang, November to December 1962, and Phu Bai, January to November 1963. Some of his closest friends include the members of Old Spooks & Spies (the Southeast Asia Army Security Agency Veterans Association). John's dry sense of humor and gift for irony will be missed by all who knew him.
A time of reflection and celebration of John's life will be held at FRENCH-Lomas on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Please feel free to come anytime between 1 and 3 pm.
