John Andrew Solga

July 8, 1955 — September 24, 2020

John Solga, age 65, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020. John entered the Navy at the age of 17. He served on the USS Prairie and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He served a total of six years, two active duty and four years on reserve.  He attended TVI for refrigeration service and repair and worked for them.  John was a jack of all trades.  He worked at a foundry, sold sod, drove for Dunkin Donuts, and surveyed with his dad. He also worked at Walmart on Academy for 14 years.

He was always available for family and friends repairing anything and everything.  John was also known for his knowledge of New Mexico and was familiar with the history and enjoyed showing people the state. He loved drawing, photography, gardening, grilling, working on cars, and would take in any animal.  John had a great sense of humor and loved playing jokes on friends and family. He is survived by one brother, Tom Solga, Farmington, NM; five sisters, Mary Anne Pixley, Littleton, Co.; Lois Miller, Charleston, IL; Dorothy Hatten, Myrtle Beach, SC; Charlene Weh-Casey, Albuquerque, NM and Beth Solga, Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews and extended family members. John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Solga.

A Private Burial Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane society or treat yourself to a dinner in John’s memory.
