John G. Rubio, born in Las Vegas, NM on August 30, 1937, passed into God's loving embrace on Monday, July 11, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Liz Rubio of Rio Rancho, NM; and his five daughters: Deborah Drury, husband, Dan and daughter, Elaine of Brooklyn Center, MN; Barbara Harmon, husband, Robert and daughter, Annie of Reno, NV; Angela Rubio and her children, Michael and Isabella of Albuquerque, NM; Yvonne Johnson, fiancé, Steve Otten and her daughter, Tia of Chicago, IL; daughter, Eileen Rubio of Albuquerque, NM; step-son, Shaun; granddaughter, Mariah Britt, fiancé, Dominic Dixon and their daughters, Zanayah and Niara of Albuquerque, NM; grandson, Gavin Kerkhoff of Albuquerque, NM; and countless other beloved relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Timoteo Rubio; mother, Virginia; wife, Corina; brothers, David, George, Tim, Edward and Carlos Rubio; sisters, Frances Montoya and Josephine Rubio.
John became an Albuquerque resident in 1959. He served in the US Army for 2 years and the National Guard for 13 years. He embarked on a 34 year career with the United States Postal Service, where he became an active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union and the longest serving treasurer of Branch 504. He was an accomplished bowler, billiards and poker player. He had a deep love for all sports, with UNM Lobos and the Dallas Cowboys especially close to his heart. John had a love of learning, travel, gardening and his many pets, domesticated and wild. He will be most remembered for his playfulness, honesty, generosity and strength, leaving a legacy his family is proud to carry on.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by Rosary at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at FRENCH - Westside. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Reception after Interment will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Hall at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Michael Rubio, Leo Montoya Jr, Robert Rubio, Arthur J. Dow, Gerald Sandoval and Jose Romero.
