John Perea

Age 91, a life-long resident of New Mexico, died Friday, December 5, 2014. He is survived by his children, Theresa Romero, Margie Mora, Lorraine Perea and husband, Rudy Bernal, Phillip Perea, Patrick Perea, Laura Hatfield and husband, Joshua, Lisa Perea and partner, Shannon Van Meir, and Amy Melia and husband, John; grandchildren, Acacia Good, Katelyn Sanchez, Ethan Sanchez, Charlotte Hatfield, Hunter Perea, Vincent Perea, Selena Soto, Jude Perea, Lola Perea, Kenley Melia, Blue Melia, Camille Romero and husband ,Walter Gude, Alicia Romero and husband, Joseph, Karen Romero, and Orlando Mora; two great-grandchildren, Lorenzo Romero and Jos Romero; special friend, Dorothy Chartier-Boyer; and many friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Trinidad Perea; children, Rosemary and John Anthony Perea; and two sisters. He was born in 1923 in Placitas, NM and spent his childhood in Placitas and Bernalillo. He served in the Navy during WWII and then went to college at Texas A&M where he was the first Spanish person to attend. John worked for Sandia National Labs until his retirement. He loved softball, bowling, and dancing. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Friends may visit FRENCH - Lomas Chapel on Sunday, December 14, 2014, 3:30 p.m. until the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 15, 2014, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with military honors. Pallbearers will be Phillip Perea, Patrick Perea, Joshua Hatfield, John Melia, and Shannon Van Mier.
