John Richard Ogilvie went home to the Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, having battled health issues for a number of years. He was born on Friday, March 24, 1933 to John and Irma Ogilvie in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While attending the University of New Mexico, he was called to serve his country in the US Army in 1955 and served honorably until 1957. He returned to UNM where he earned a BS in University Studies. Shortly afterwards, he worked at Albuquerque National Bank and Rust Equipment before being employed by Kirtland Air Force Base from where he retired in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Ogilvie; and sister, Annie Laurie. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cora Ogilvie; nephews, Everett Ogilvie of Farmington, NM, Chip Ogilvie of Albuquerque, NM, and George Hardie of Indiana; and his niece, Heather Hamilton of Indiana.
As a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as a Deacon and in many other capacities. Ever mindful of his commitment to society, he worked with Habitat for Humanity, Election Poll Worker, and Precinct Chairman.
Upon his retirement, Richard and Cora enjoyed travelling and visiting relatives in Scotland, friends in England, and four cruises. He was much loved and respected by his family and many nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed. Special gratitude goes to John Lucero, Barbara Forrister and Nora Bird for their unwavering support during a difficult time.
A Service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St NE.
