DeMONTINEY, JOHN, "CHIEF STANDING" John DeMontiney, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died October 17, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Theo; his children, Delaine DeMontiney of Rocky Boy, MT, John (Cinder ) DeMontiney of Toppenish, WA, Ted (Roxanne) DeMontiney of Rocky Boy, MT, Cindy (Walter) White or San Bernadino, CA; his sister, Ella Joan Morales of San Diego, CA; several nieces and nephews; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Peter; his beloved brother, Joe; his beloved sisters, Margaret, Mary Jane and Julia; and his granddaughter, Sydalia. John was raised on the Rocky Boy Reservation and was a proud member of the Chippewa-Cree tribe from Rocky Boy, MT. John received his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from U.N.M. John retired from the U.S. Dept. of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, in 1989 with combined civilian and military service of 32 years as a Supervisory Highway Engineer. John served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. John was a member of the American Legion, Post 0100 in Albuquerque and a lifetime member of DAV. John was very active in politics: tribal, local and federal. That was his passion. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends near and far.
