John A. Martinez

November 10, 1930 — July 22, 2014

Age 83, John peacefully went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2014. He was born in Raton, New Mexico on November 10, 1930. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Abel and Paulita Martinez and nine loving brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rachel; son and wife, John and Julie; daughters, Sandy and Lori; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren plus numerous family and friends who will miss him deeply. John graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic Academy in Raton. John was a member of the United States Air Force and served proudly in the Korean War. He attended and graduated from business college in Albuquerque, NM where he met his wife, Rachel. John was employed by Dixon Paper Co. for 40 years. John was an active member of The Shrine of St. Bernadette and served the Lord and his community as an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After retirement, John and Rachel were able to make numerous trips to Europe and enjoyed traveling worldwide. John was an avid golfer, bowler, fisherman and in his retirement took up painting, ceramic and wood crafts. The Rosary will be recited Saturday, July 26, 2014, 8:30 a.m. immediately followed by Mass, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Road NE. John will be laid to rest with military honors at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
