John Marcon, Jr., a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, went to the Lord on November 2, 2015. John was born in Walsenburg, Colorado on April 27, 1929, and grew up in southern Colorado. He was the youngest of 9 children. During the Korean War, he served as an electronic technician on the destroyer ship, USS Fiske 842. After being honorably discharged from the US Navy, he attended Pueblo Junior College, where he was the first recipient of the Helwig Engineering Scholarship. He earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado and a Master's degree from the University of New Mexico. He was employed as electrical engineer by Sandia National Laboratories for over 35 years and was one of the first engineers to be designated as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. John was a parishioner of The Shrine of St. Bernadette since its opening in 1959. He was also a coach at Mile High Little League and was one of the founding members of the Albuquerque Youth Basketball League, serving as its first president. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen (Freda) Marcon; his parents, John and Louise Marcon; brothers, Louis, Mario and Anthony Marcon, and sisters, Angelina Maccagnan, Mary Steinhage, Anna Hinton, Albina Huffman, and Alvera Douglas. He is survived by his eldest son, John Marcon III, his wife, Maria, and grandchildren, John A. Marcon, his wife, Santana Marcon, James Marcon and Lina Marcon. John is survived by his youngest son, Anthony Marcon, his wife, Michele, and grandchildren, Nicole McCarthy and her husband, Jason; Amanda McIntosh, her husband, Codi, great-grandson, Stiles John, and grandson, Anthony Aaron Marcon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the service on Friday, November 6, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. Pallbearers will be John Marcon III, Anthony Marcon, John A. Marcon, James Marcon, Anthony Aaron Marcon and Norm Cairns.
