Dr. John H. Linebarger was born in Clarion, Iowa, on March 9, 1932, to Warren and Helen (Parsons) Linebarger. He died on April 27, 2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 89.
John was a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, became a captain in the U.S. Air Force, was a professor at LeTourneau University (then College), and was a mechanical engineer and project manager. He earned his master’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his doctorate degree from Oklahoma State University. He worked at several national laboratories, including Sandia National Labs, before he retired in 2000.
John married Marjorie Brown in November 1957. Together they had 5 children. Marjorie preceded him in death in 2016. John is survived by John (Denelle) Linebarger, Janet Ashby, Jim (Nina) Linebarger, Joleen (Rex) Steffen, and Jerry Linebarger, along with 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
John became a Christian while at the Naval Academy and devoted much of his free time throughout his life to Bible study and service in the church. In his own words, he wanted all his friends to know that “we are not here to celebrate a life that is now dead and buried, but a new life that will flourish for eternity.” John rejoiced in the fact that just as Christ Jesus ascended into heaven in bodily form, so will he, and that the eternal worship of Almighty God which he now enjoys face-to-face is the reason all of humanity was created.
