John Lee Roy Williams
John Lee Roy Williams, a dedicated, loving, and supportive husband, father, and friend to all he met, passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, after a very long battle with cancer. John passed peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He got to enjoy the mountain view that he was very fond of. John worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 38 years ending his career as a Senior Manager when he retired in 2016.
John was known for his deep singing voice, love for math, and innate desire to serve. He enjoyed art, sports, music, and he absolutely loved to spend time outdoors. We have many great memories of him golfing, hiking, playing games, solving math problems, and lots of other activities. He is survived by Melina (his wife of 50 years); his children (and spouses), Jim (Jennifer), Mindy (Steve), and Piper (Doug); as well as his eight grandchildren (Katie, Matt, Bren, Jacob, Ben, Brooklynn, Zach, and Logan) and two great grandchildren (Bellamy and Cassius). He is also survived by his mother, Edith, and his four younger sisters (and spouses), Marcia (Larry), Miriam (Jim), Melva Ann (Bill), and Merleen (Jim). He leaves behind many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his father, Bob and grandson, Marcus John. John had a significant impact on many others in his great life. He had a knack for helping people no matter what the need called for. He served on the New Mexico Council of Churches as well as being a youth leader, a minister, and serving as president of his mission center within the church for a time. He encouraged people to seek out their own faith journeys and was a mentor to many. He was Treasurer for the New Mexichords where he was able participate in his passion for singing. We hold John deeply in our hearts as we say goodbye to an incredible man who always did what he felt was right and held family closest of all.
