John Anthony Hunter

Age 60, died peacefully in the arms of his wife on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico with Esophageal Cancer.

CHILDHOOD

John was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 30, 1959, when his father was stationed at Caldwell Air Force Base. Later the family traveled to other places, including Danville, IL, South Dakota, Cape May, NJ, and finally to Rusk, TX in 1967. John’s home in Rusk had a large backyard where they raised a few cows, some geese, chickens, and a few pigs. There was a small creek, lined with trees, that wound through the pasture. It was a place for kids to play games, build tree houses, watch minnows in the creek, and to plan adventures. This is where John grew up with his 9 brothers and sisters.

EDUCATION

* Completed two AAS degrees from Mechanical Engineering Technology and Laser Electro=Optics Technology, Texas State Technical College, Waco, TX.

* BS in Management from the University of Phoenix.

* ME in Systems Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.

CAREER

In 1984 he was hired by Bendix Corp on contract to supervise laser operations at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Atomic Vapor Laser Isotope System (AVLIS) for one year, then accepted a permanent position at Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked for the last 31 years. During his career, achieved three patents and co-authored on 36 publications. He has been a PMP since 2004. He was on the board of directors for the local chapter of the Project Management Institute's Rio Grande Chapter as the VP of Communications in 2005-07 and was awarded "Outstanding Board Member of the Year". He has been an INCOSE Enchantment member since 2005.

He was a man with full of love and passion, always look out for people around him, with many ambitions and dream for peace and happiness in his life. He will be remembered by so many, those who shared John's First Place winning moments of New Mexico Archery Championship, many Vegas Shoot events and friendships. He will be missed by many family members and co-workers, and those whom have received financial aids by John.

MEMORIAL SERVICE

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas.
