John Hohnberger, 74, beloved husband, father and friend, was called to his eternal resting place on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. He battled against pancreatic cancer and gave his all till the end.
He entered this world on Sunday, September 16, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI, born to Howard and Dorothy Hohnberger. Predeceased by his brother, Howard; and sister, Roseanne. He is survived by his wife, Prajuab "Pete" Hohnbeger; daughters, Chieko E., and JackieLou. He is also survived by his brothers and sister, Gilbert, Harry, Herman, George, Mike, and Mary. He leaves behind his nephew, Victor Hohnberger; niece, Geri Ong and her children. His niece, Tina Smith and her children. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
John proudly served in the United States Navy from 1967-1993. He retired as a Petty Officer 2nd Class "E5" served as a Mess Management Specialist Second Class MS3 and Storekeeper SK3. John served under the U.S.S. Nimitz and served on a Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare. He earned medals for his service including Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam service medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Citation. His uniform ribbons include Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle E.E., Good Conduct Medal four years, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary, National Defense Service, Navy Sea Service, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal 20 years, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He felt proud to serve and told great stories about his time on duty.
His smile and laughter will be greatly missed and his sense of humor. John fell in love with Pete while dancing and he called her the love of his life. His favorite hobbies included baking and cooking new recipes. His homemade bread was always five stars. He had a love for all animals and had many pets. John also loved going out to visit his family and friends and was very good at keeping in touch.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.
