John Thomas Hall November 29, 1927- September 12, 2015 John Thomas Hall, 87, passed away peacefully while taking a nap next to his wife of 60 years, on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Albuquerque. In his 87 years he worked on engineering projects in New Mexico, Phoenix, and Japan, many of which influenced national security. He provided a wonderful example of strong faith and the dignity of a gentleman, in addition to offering love, kindness and friendship to all those around him. John was born in Slaton, Texas on November 29, 1927. He became disenchanted plowing the family's cotton farm and cleaning the chicken coop, and went to Texas Tech to earn his degree in Electrical Engineering. The day after he graduated, he reported to duty with the U.S. Army and was sent to Honshu Island in Japan. He worked with the communications division mainly designing and setting up radio communications. He later continued his military service with the Army Reserve with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired in 1981 as a Colonel. One of his last major projects was to write a procedure manual for the Pentagon for the U.S. Army Reserve. John worked as an electrical power engineer with Southwestern Public Service Company in Roswell from 1951 until 1956. There he met his wife Jackie Wallace, a company receptionist, as she passed his office on lunch breaks to sit in the sun on the roof of the building. He and Jackie married on Valentine's Day 1955. John was then employed as a facilities engineer for Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix. He moved to Albuquerque and worked at Sandia National Labs as a design engineer and supervisor for 27 years until his retirement. John and Jackie raised a family, teaching hard work and Christian values. He led the prayer for his family before every meal, always made time to worship God, and thoroughly read the scriptures. He was always there whenever his children or grandchildren needed his help. He took Jackie and the family on many wonderful vacations throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. John is survived by his wife Jackie, his children and their spouses, Richard and Martha Hall, and Kim and Shannon Merewether. His grandchildren gave him great joy: Mark and his wife- Lauren Merewether, granddaughter- Lauren Merewether, Megan Merewether, Jamie Hall, and Lexie Hall.
