John Henry Oglesby, 86, passed away at home on November 12, 2024, after a three-year battle with lung cancer and associated health issues. John was born on July 7, 1938 in Graymont (now Twin City), GA. to Frank J. Oglesby and Lois Cowart Oglesby. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Pamela Oglesby, sister Margie Walden, brothers, Dick, Frank, Jr and Loy Oglesby.
After graduating from high school in 1957, John enlisted in the US Army and attended basic training at Ft Jackson, SC; was assigned to an Army Security Agency School for training at Ft Devens, MA.
He served in South Korea, Panama and White Sands Missile Range, NM. John was discharged in 1960 and moved to Albuquerque where he hired on with the Atchison Topeka and Sante Fe Railroad as a Wire Chief trainee and worked in Las Vegas, NM and La Junta, CO.
In 1961, he hired on with Western Electric in Colorado Springs, CO. He worked for Western Electric in CO, GA and IA; then resigned in 1969 and moved to Albuquerque to hire on with Mountain Bell as a repairman. While with Mountain Bell, John attended night school at The University of Albuquerque. He worked in installation, engineering, state staff, etc. and was promoted to a Level I Manager with Mountain Bell. John took early retirement that was offered in 1986 by the company. He then worked for various communication companies as a Communications Engineer until 2005.
John was a former member of Masonic Temple Lodge 6 and Ballut Abyad Shriners (Loco Patrol Unit). He was a Past Associate Guardian of the International Order of Jobs Daughters Bethel No. 2.
He was an avid football fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Dallas Cowboys. John was also a soccer fan and coached youth AYSO and Duke City club teams over the years. John attended and enjoyed volunteering in the activities of his children and grandchildren John was a master at putting on a professional yard sale and in retirement he enjoyed frequenting local casinos.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years Yvonne (Kay) Oglesby, daughter Beth Montoya, son Steve Oglesby; grandchildren, Whitney Lundy, Wesley Lundy, Jordan Oglesby (Jude) Gallegos, Justice Oglesby; great grandson Dalton Lundy; brothers-in-law Cleo (Mary) Keeney and Carlyle (Susan) Keeney; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering for viewing was held at French Funerals and Cremations on Lomas, NE, followed by internment at Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque, NM. Doug Sweet, Hospice Chaplain, officiated. Pallbearers were Beth Montoya, Steve Oglesby, Jude Gallegos, Andrew Oglesby, Cory Keeney and John Reindorp. Honorary Pallbearers: Wesley Lundy, Justice Oglesby, Dalton Lundy, Michael Oglesby, Jack Oglesby, Mark Keeney, Ryan Keeney, Jared Keeney and Kevin Keeney.
