John E. Gurule, 86, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Mr. Gurule was born September 9, 1927 in Peralta, NM to Pete and Pauline Gurule. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant. Following his military career he served as the Post Commander for American Legion Post 72. He dutifully served his community as an Albuquerque City Commissioner. He worked for the University of New Mexico, which sparked his love for the UNM Lobos. For many years he actively participated as an usher for a local church. Mr. Gurule was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Pauline, brother Ismael "Sally" (daughter Shirley), sister Patty (husband Ben & son Paul) Armijo and Lucy (Jimmy) Tubbs and friend Amy Ortiz. He is survived by his loving wife Judy and their furry companion Mieka. Sister Cecile Gomez and Aunt Perfilia "Fila" Gonzalez. Cherished children Michael (Jackie), Carolyn "Sue" Taylor and Debbie. Devoted Grandfather to Michael (Danielle) Taylor, Jon (Kristin) Taylor, Desiree (Andres), Adrianne (John) Jaramillo and Bernadette. Loving great-grandfather to Evangeline Gurule, Elias Jaramillo, Mila Taylor, Sarai Urtiaga and baby Taylor onboard. Devoted in-law to Emma, Jan (Mike) Murphy and Carol (Doug) Snider. Proud uncle and God-father to many nieces, nephews and God children. Friend to Romeo and JoAnn Ortiz, Roy and Skai McKeag, Karen Bewak, Dr. Dorlores Gutierrez and many more. Services will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 1:00pm at FRENCH - Lomas and burial services Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery - arrive at 1:00pm.
