John H. Brooks, age 82, loving father and founder of John Brooks Supermarkets, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022. Born in Tyler, Texas, November 6, 1939, John moved to Albuquerque in 1953, graduated from Highland High School in 1958 and attended the University of New Mexico. John Brooks started his supermarket chain in 1978.
John is survived by his brother Gene Brooks; his four children: Kelly Ortman and her husband Rob Ortman, Karen Hobbs and her husband Randy Hobbs, Tyler Brooks and his girlfriend Amanda Krasulick, and Sydney Brooks; best friend Suzette Brooks; four grandchildren: Kasen Ortman, Kyle Ortman, Kaleb Hobbs and Ryder Hobbs; cousin Judi Cook; niece Beverly Brunson and her husband David Brunson; nephew Bill Brooks and his wife Reci Brooks; brother-in-law Bud Crow and his wife Wanda Crow.
Services will be April 2, 2022, at Central United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions go to John's favorite charities: Saranam (an organization dedicated to helping families break the cycle of homelessness,
