John “Papa” Bridges, 78, passed away on Saturday evening, June 3, 2017 at the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, surrounded by his family.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 52 years, Donna Bridges, and his large loving family of five brothers, two sisters, five children, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as well as his wonderful extended family and countless friends.
John was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Maurice Bridges and Trula Beeler. As an adult, he moved to Indiana, where he met his beautiful wife. He was an electrician by trade, and carried that to Albuquerque in 1969, where he eventually retired from Intel in 2004. He was honored to be a member of Anchor Point Church, and was very proud of the video ministry he created to share the word of God.
No one met John and forgot him; it just wasn’t possible. He shared his love many times with his sense of humor. Laughter was undoubtedly one of his favorite things. He knew that a good laugh and a smile was a sure sign of love. His unending love for his family and friends was beyond comprehension. His patience and compassion through his life built a strong and kind soul. He loved everyone equally and truly. John never knew a stranger; everyone he ever met was immediately a friend. He was an incredible leader, for his kids, grandkids and friends alike. He strived to have and pass on values in ways that would never be forgotten, and that was what he cherished in life. The pain we all feel is evidence of the immeasurable love that we had the opportunity of experiencing through him. He often said, “We begin writing our obituary the day we are born. Make sure to be remembered as kind and full of love.”
Visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Westside. A reception and interment will follow the services.
