"One day shy of the 83rd anniversary of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, one of the sailors lost on the date that will live in infamy will finally have his name marking his final resting place.
U.S. Navy Seaman Second Class John Cuthbert Auld was laid to rest in Albuquerque Friday, Dec. 6.
Auld was assigned to the USS Oklahoma and sadly died during the historic attack after a torpedo capsized the vessel within 15 minutes. The England-born Auld was 23 when he died. His duties included ship maintenance and custodial work, according to the Naval Personnel Command. He also assisted with the movement of cargo, stood watches, served as a messenger and was a member of the ship's gun crew.
The following awards and decorations were given to Auld as well:
Purple Heart Medal
