Joe Paul Kindrick

Joe Paul Kindrick passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the age of 87. Born in Venus, New Mexico, near Edgewood, he loved the beauty and history of his home state. The youngest of six children, he was preceded in death by his parents Charles Wesley “Sam” Kindrick and Bessie Lee Whinery Kindrick, a brother George Kindrick, and three sisters: Marguerite Henson, Nellie Mitchell, and Betty Voigt. He was married for 37 years to Sylvia Jeanne Smith-Churchman who cared for him in his last years. He is survived by his brother John Kindrick and John’s wife Jean; three children: Lisa K. Kindrick and husband Jonathan S. Nimitz, Amy L. Bynum and husband James B. Bynum, Randall S. Kindrick and wife Amy M. Kindrick; four grandchildren: Rachel N. Bickett and husband Aaron, Daniel A. Nimitz, Molly O. Bynum, and Matilyn A. Kindrick; and many nieces and nephews.
J.P. retired from the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1985 as a District Chief after 26 years of service. He graduated from Stanley High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Albuquerque. He served in the Army as a helicopter mechanic and briefly in the Air Force. He had a keen mind and enjoyed reading, animals, road trips, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, camping, fishing, hiking, finding treasures at garage sales and flea markets, rock hounding, and helping others. His humor and loving heart will be missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 21, 6:30 pm, at Grace Church, 6901 San Antonio Dr NE, Albuquerque. Donations in his memory may be made to the Albuquerque Fire Department Retirees Association (5605 Sweetwater Dr NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102) or Animal Humane New Mexico (615 Virginia St. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108).
