Joe Rosauro (Pepe) Gallegos at the age of 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 26, 2016. He passed away at the VA hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on July 8, 1927, in Delia, NM to Jose Rosauro Gallegos and Juanita Casaus Gallegos. He was drafted into the Navy at the end of WWII. Toward the end of his tour, he married his sweetheart, Angela Fay Garcia, on April 22, 1946, in Santa Rosa, NM. They lived in Ft. Summer, NM until June of 1959 when they moved to Albuquerque in search of a better job. Joe was a hardworking, kind, loving, and giving man. He started out working as a mechanic and then got into construction, mostly in heavy equipment. He was a very proud father of three sons and early on he told them you have a choice of working hard with your mind or doing hard work using your back. Throughout his life, he was willing to teach you anything he knew and was a great influence and example in doing so.
He enjoyed fishing , working on cars, playing the harmonica, special times with family, reminiscing about days gone by, and past family and friends. He was quite the dancer; he would glide across the dance floor. All the female members of the family would wait all night for just one dance with him. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, brother, and a great friend.
Joe is survived by his loving wife on 69 years, Angela Fay Gallegos, of Albuquerque; three sons, Roque and wife Connie of Albuquerque, Jake and wife Donna of Belen, and Bill and wife Paula of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren and spouses; ten great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter; siblings, Raymond Gallegos of Alamogordo, NM, Guadalupe and wife Rosie of Tucson, AZ, Greg and wife Rita and Elsie Gallegos of Ft. Sumner, NM. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Florence Gallegos, Cecilia Greenier, Rosarito Gallegos, and Ernestina Sena. He will be missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe's legacy will live on through his sons, grandchildren, and all of his relatives and friends the he touched throughout his life. A special thank you to all the staff of the hospice unit at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, and all the other hospital staff that took such excellent care of our dad throughout his stay.
