Joanne C (Edmund) Thompson

Joanne C. Thompson, age 89, died suddenly on Monday, May 15, 2023 at her home in Placitas, New Mexico.

She was born on Friday, July 7, 1933, in Dallas Texas.  Her parents were John F. and Mary Thompson.  She graduated from the University of Texas in 1954 and later completed a master's degree in education from Texas A&I in Kingsville, TX.

Her first teaching job was in Corpus Christi, Texas where she learned to speak Spanglish from her middle school students who were learning English in her English classes.   In 1965 she met Dr. Raymond Morphew.  They married and moved to Houston and started a family.  They had two children:  Susan and Lewis.

In 1990 she met and later married Johanna Johanson.  In 1998 they moved to Placitas, New Mexico.  Joanne was very active in the Placitas Senior Center and had many close friends there.  Joanne and Johanna loved to visit new places and meet people.  They made many trips in the United States as well as in Europe.

Joanne is survived by her wife, Johanna Johanson; her son, Lewis Foster Morphew; her daughter,Susan Morphew Croteau and son-in-law, Roger Croteau; and four grandchildren, Rosie, Bobby, Emily and Dylan Croteau.  She is also survived by three of her beloved dogs and many loving friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Placitas Presbyterian Church, 7 Paseo De San Antonio Rd, Placitas, NM.
