Joanna Elizabeth DeVries was born to Joseph and Fredreca Wagnis on June 14, 1940 in Lewiston, Maine. She passed in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 31, 2022 at the age of 82. She is preceded by her husband, Ronald DeVries; sister, Harriet Wagnis; and daughter-in-law, Pattie Jo DeVries. She is survived by her brother, Fredrick Wagnis; children: Renee DeVries-Roeder (Tim), Michael DeVries (Amber) and Kevin DeVries (Teresa); and eight grandchildren.
Joanna’s greatest achievement was the blessings of love and encouragement she gave to her family and everyone she met. Joanna’s deep faith in Christ led her to nurturing and caring for the Peshlakai and Tsosie Native American families that culminated in life-long friendships. She taught as a special-needs assistant in the public schools, worked as a secretary, and volunteered as a deacon at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church. She had a passion for music and joyfully gave of herself through her cooking.
In Lieu of flowers please support HopeWorks ( https://www.hopeworks.org ) or special needs education at Governor Bent through Shine Partnership (send checks to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church with Shine Works; Joanna in the memo).
