Joan White, age 88, a dedicated mother, grandmother, and businesswoman, passed away on August 1, 2017. Joanie, as her family and friends knew her, was always a beaming light in every setting. Joanie was an Albuquerque native, born February 27, 1929. Growing up, she was extremely independent and always strived for success. Joanie graduated from Belen High School in 1947 and continued to Highland’s University in Las Vegas, NM. Shortly after college, Joanie met her husband, LeRoy White, a Sergeant in the Air Force stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base. They married in 1951. In the years to follow they had three children.
She was dedicated to her family and career, and continued to work up into her 70’s. Joanie loved listening to live local music and was considered to be a jazz connoisseur. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne McGavick, and her husband, Patrick; her son, James White and his wife, Linda; granddaughters, Katie Meeker, Shelia Sutphin, Christine Hughes Senneff, Anna Rogers-Ortiz, Crystal White, Amanda White, Nikki White; and grandson, Conner McGavick; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Joanie was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy White; daughter, Linda Jo White; and granddaughter, Jennifer Hughes.
Per Joanie’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. In early fall her family will gather on her beloved Sandia Mountains for a celebration of life.
