Joan Cory (Chandler) Johnstone

February 19, 1925 — February 23, 2022

Joan Cory Chandler Johnstone died February 23, 2022, in Albuquerque, NM. She was 97. Joan was born February 19, 1925, in New York City, NY to her parents, Joseph and Olive Chandler. She graduated from Southside High School in 1943 then attended the American Academy of Dramatic Art. After WWII she went on a USO tour of the European Theater of Operations as a cast member of a play titled Three's a Family. Upon returning from Europe, Joan made her way out to Hollywood, CA where she stayed at the Hollywood Studio Club, landing bit parts in radio and early tv shows. She was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Radio Artists. She married Paul M Johnstone Jr. in 1949. With Paul's career in the airline industry the family moved around quite a bit; California, Hawaii, and Florida. After their children were gone, she and Paul traveled the world. Paul retired to St Michaels, MD where they became involved with the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and the St. Luke's United Methodist Church. After Paul died, Joan moved to Albuquerque, NM to be closer to some of her children and grandchildren. Joan is survived by her sons, Paul Scott Johnstone of Easley, SC and Joel C Johnstone and daughter-in-law, Stephanie of Albuquerque, NM; and her daughter Cory Johnstone Meyer of Albuquerque, NM; and 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul. In her personal biography Joan sums up her life beautifully: "I have been so blessed with a good marriage, with a husband who took me all over the world - three perfect children who gave us five grandchildren and so far, six great grandchildren. My life has been so full of awesome things that I am grateful for my bounty - so far so good - and possibly it will continue to the end. I love you all."
