Joan C. Ellison, 93, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, William W. Ellison (November 1973), and her memory lives on through her daughters, Christine Ellison and her partner Michael VeSeart, and Vicki Ellison Kent and her husband Guy, grandson; Brady Kent, wife, Michele, their son, Joan's great-grandson, Fletcher; and grandson, Drew Kent, wife Audra.
Born Joan Louise Stewart in Manila, Philippines, Friday, November 22, 1929, to an American mother, Louise Tolman and a British father, Edward Stewart, Joan lived a privileged life until age 12 when she became interned for 3 years at Santo Tomas Internment Camp during WWII. After the war, her family lived in San Francisco, CA and later moved to Albuquerque, NM where she has resided since 1947. She was a devout Catholic all her life. She enjoyed playing piano and gardening. Always an animal lover, she raised and showed collies for many years, owned and fostered Doberman Pinchers, and took great pleasure in caring for and riding her Arabian horses along North Valley trails. She was an avid fan of Jeopardy, football, and horse racing. Her generous spirit and quick wit will be fondly missed by family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church 619 Copper Ave NW, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery will be private.
