Joan Marjorie Bowen, born April 8th, 1930, in the south of Scotland and moved to north London when she was around 5. She was the eldest of 5 children and lived through the ratios of war, which she carried with her, her entire life. Joan and I never threw food away.
Joan married her teenage sweetheart, and they lived and worked together, Joan and Frank enjoyed yachting and traveling the world together. After Franks passing Joan became a physical therapist where she remained for many years, developing relationships that are still connected today. Joans love of writing letters kept her mind sharp and hands still working. Her need to rescue and donate to her many, many charities gave her much pleasure.
Joan moved to the Albuquerque area 30 years ago after marrying her second husband Taylor Bowen. Once again Joan was off traveling to distant shores across the land. While at home she remained and active part of The Daughters of The British Empire and so looked forward to meeting and socializing with her native tongued friends. As the oldest member of her chapter I can say she will be missed by them. When not writing letters, Joan love patio lunches. The Four Hills Club that she belonged to always welcomed her by name and knew her favorite place on the patio with all her lunch desires. She will miss the club.
Joans many friends here and abroad will truly miss our Joan. Her friends Richard and Derek kept her always in the know with pictures and letters. Guys I can't thank you enough she says. Eva and Mark, who always kept Joan wondering with interest what was going on and where you must be visiting or what improvements were made at your place. She always kept yours and Richards and Dereks lives with moves and houses a part of hers. Danny, Sissy, and Sue your contact with her reminded her of the many stories of you all, which she loved reliving in that moment. I feel like I know all of her friends in Europe as well as she does, she talked of you all a lot and I can't thank you enough for giving her your time and love. Richard and Derek, I thank you with tears of love and joy and Joan did her whole life.
Here at home, Linda and Bryan and her favorite staff at the club she loved. Thanks for greeting her like an old family friend, she always felt safe there. They knew her well "Joan you having the usual?" sometimes on the table before she sat down. Katrina you're the greatest she would say. Thank you for your constant care and inclusion, she couldn't wait to be invited back to your rose filled garden. Allison, Gillian, and Vicky thank you so much for the wonderful things that you shared with her. Her favorite neighbors who always called and had to check in Gloria and Marlene, great people!! The adventure club, Clara and Paul, what would we do without you! Joan and I thank you and bless you for everything. Mary, you're an awesome person and we both adore you. Thank you so much. Lastly the only other man to make Joan happy, besides me. She thanks you for your friendship and then your work. Every morning Joan smiled because of you. I want you to know how much that means and meant to her and I. She will mess you too very much Frank. Thank you.
Judith, a best friend, she said of you forever and always. She could count on you for anything, and so could I and we can't thank you enough for all and everything you have done. The sister Joan never had.
My dearest Joan, it's your big baby who will miss you most. Being there for each other was what we knew best and both loved doing for each other. You taught me so much, you loved me so and you appreciated what we did and had together. I can't thank God enough for bringing us together. I miss you terribly and can't wait to see you one day upstairs for a glass of cab, just me, you and Mr. Fluffy. All my love, Lane.
