Jo Anne Spargo, age 80, passed away on June 23, 2016, in Albuquerque. JoAnne was born to the late Russell King and Allie King on December 27, 1935. She married Richard (Rick) Spargo on December 27, 1956, and they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
Rick survives her as well as her daughter, Cheryl De Candia; and her grandson/son, Justin Spargo. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Blevins and her husband, Marland of Las Cruces; their children, as well as the children of her brother, Jerry. On Rick's side of the family, she is survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Jo Anne was preceded in death by her daughter, Joni Kaye Spargo and her brother, Jerry King.
Jo Anne was born and raised near Las Cruces, NM and received her degree in education from New Mexico State University. After graduation, Jo declined a Fulbright scholarship to study in England. Instead, she chose to marry Rick and move to Albuquerque where she raised her children and remained for the rest of her life. They also enjoyed their second home in Ruidoso, NM, where they spent many happy days with family and friends. Jo Anne loved to cook, care for her family, create breathtaking needlepoint canvases for her home, sew, and spend time visiting family and friends at her home or on Facebook. She always knew which family member was moving, taking a new job, or expecting an addition to their family. Jo especially enjoyed seeing pictures of the children and other family members on Facebook and took pride in her ability to recall details and dates of events and activities. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last few months. She requested a simple funeral, and that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Visitation will be held Monday, June 27, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming. The service will take place also at FRENCH-Wyoming on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Jo Anne and Rick lost their daughter, Joni Kaye Spargo, on June 19, 2003, and Joni's ashes will be interred with Jo Anne.
