Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother and father Ruby (Cox) and John "Dutch" Wier, brother Robert Wier, sister, Billie Shelton, and son-in-law, Danny Litwiller. Jimmy is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years Marlene (Mulherin) Wier; children Pamela Litwiller (Danny) of Phoenix, Arizona, Carolyn Maxwell (Gary) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jimmy Wier, Jr. (Barbara) of Denver, Colorado; his grandchildren Jason Wier, Jake Litwiller (Valerie), Zeke Litwiller (Lanich), Jamie Finley (Bryce), Joshua Wier, and Selena Litwiller; great grandchildren: Andan Camblin, Alex Camblin, Isabelle Wier, Dillon O'Brien and Jayse Wier. Jimmy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jimmy Wier was a faithful Christian, family man, and the definition of the kind of man that men want to be. He was loving, generous and honest. He was friendly, warm, and had a great sense of humor. This is evidenced by the many friends, family, and brothers and sisters in Christ that loved and cared for him deeply. Although his life was full of accomplishments and success, ever humble in spirit and heart, you would never hear him brag. Jimmy grew up in Austin and was a proud Texas transplant, spending some years in Arizona and finally settling in New Mexico. He was a Navy Frogman (UDT), the precursors to the Navy Seals. Frogmen were some of the most mentally and physically tough men to walk the earth. Their training was brutal and equipment bare; swim shorts, flippers, snorkel, knife, and a raft. Jimmy loved the Navy and the lessons he learned there served him well his entire life. More than the Navy though, Jimmy loved his wife, Marlene, who he met at a barn dance in Phoenix, Arizona, while on leave from the Navy.
Following his adventures in the Navy, he spent the next 30 years building a great career operating a print shop. Once retired from the print shop Jimmy filled his time with learning the art of massage therapy, which he mastered and did for over 20 years. He also served for many years as a dedicated and trustworthy volunteer with hospice. Jimmy's diligence didn't end with his career. He was equally passionate about his hobbies and took them very seriously. He was a pilot, gardener, and world traveler. One of his favorite things was sharing his amazing passion and love for soaring. Jimmy was both a pilot and instructor. He was an expert glider pilot. How many people do you know that are that serious about their hobbies? That is work ethic, dedication, perseverance, and mental toughness. Jimmy had the greenest of thumbs. His backyard is beautiful. He successfully planted various fruit trees and rose bushes. The same quality and work ethic applied to this hobby as the Navy, print shop, and soaring. He also loved traveling and has been all over the world.
He traveled the way he lived his life; meticulously planned and well documented. Vacation was not an opportunity to be lazy. It was an opportunity to see, learn, enjoy, and take plenty of pictures of this wonderful planet. He was often behind the video camera capturing precious memories for his family to cherish and enjoy. Jimmy lived his life the Christian way on the narrow road. He served God as a member, teacher, and deacon of the church for over 45 years. He believed Jesus was the answer to all things and loved to share the Gospel. His beliefs, principles, and actions have been a priceless example for his family. Jimmy was the patriarch of the family. Being on top is not easy. This is yet another example of his work ethic, dedication, and loving heart. He knew to properly lead a family takes all of your time, love, and generosity. Jimmy never lacked in supporting his family with prayer, love, time, advice, and money. He never turned his back on family, or gave up on family, even if he did not approve of their actions or beliefs. He was steady and secure; the love and support was always there. Jimmy was one of God's many seed planters. He was integral in bringing several family members to Christ and leading family that had strayed back to Christ.
Jimmy Wier did not procrastinate or waste his time on this earth. He planned, executed, and finished. The example he set and impact he made will live on through his family for years to come. Of the long, long list of things about Jimmy that will be missed most, his incredible ability to make everyone in his life feel so special is at the top of the list. He had a unique relationship with each one of his family members. He connected with each in a way that was warm and appreciative. He always left them feeling his love and appreciation. He was gifted and he was a blessing to everyone in his life.
