Jimmy Chavez

Jimmy N. Chavez died peacefully Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at his home in Albuquerque surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Jimmy was born on January 20, 1936. He is Náneesht'ézhί and born for Tł 'ááshchí'í.

Jimmy was a welder by trade. Some of the companies he worked for were Southern Union Gas Co., P & A Welding, and Ralph Miller Co.

Jimmy is survived by his children, Norbert, Matilda, Earl, Nanette, Carolyn, and Edwin (Barbara); 6 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and one surviving sister, Helen Vigil. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Martin and Eva; 4 brothers; and 1 sister.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, 12:00 p.m., at the Light of Life Mennonite Church, 780 Boyle Road, Farmington, NM. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Farmington. A reception will be held at the reception hall of the Light of Life Mennonite Church. Pallbearers will be Jimmy's grandsons and great-grandsons, Kody Jiron, Alizaya John, Jason Downing Jr, Jacob Jiron, Dylan Muir, and Koiyn Muir. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Chinana, Randy Chavez, Adam Jiron, Quentin Loretto, George Chavez, Norbert Chavez Jr., Earl Chavez, Alvin Chavez, and Edwin Chavez.
