James (Jim) J. Million, age 95, lovingly known as "Papa" by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the loving staff at the BeeHive Homes of Taylor Ranch, passed away on Sunday, October 30th, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 4, 1926, to James E. and Amy Million, and married Mary Merhege on October 22, 1950, in Espanola, where they built their life and family for 67 years until Mary passed away in 2018.
Jim was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, as well as mentor to many throughout his life. He served in the Army in WWII from 1945 to 1947. He also owned an electrical contracting business in Espanola and serviced all areas of the state that needed his help. He was an active member of the Espanola Chamber, a volunteer Fireman, Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Explorer Troop Leader.
After retiring from his electrical occupation, Jim was never at a loss for something to do and began making jewelry, picture frames, wooden plaques, music, jewelry boxes, etc., which he sold at art fairs throughout the southwest. He even created a second business selling boot jacks to national western wear stores throughout the US. He was a man of many talents.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Geri Kasparek (David) from Albuquerque, Kathy Johnson (Max) from Leander, TX, Carol and Cheryl Million; and close family friend, Shirley Cossaboom from Albuquerque; son, Jim Million, Jr. (JaJa) from Albuquerque; grandchildren, Marla Johnson; Brett Johnson (Ruth Ann); Kimberly Cannady (Randal); Ashley Garcia (Nestor); Alesh, Michael, Skylar and James Richard Million; and 6 great grandchildren, Kaylee and Riley Cannady; Ava and Mia Garcia; and Eli and Emma Johnson. He is also survived by his only living sister in-law, Helen Finch of Espanola, and many nieces and nephews.
We give special, heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff of BeeHive Homes of Taylor Ranch and the Presbyterian Hospice team for their wonderful, loving care of Papa over the past 4 years.
