Jim Rael, a resident of Belen, New Mexico went on to be with the Lord Jesus on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the age of 92 years young. He passed peacefully in the presence of his wife of 71 years, Sally Rael. Jim is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Dianna; son-in-law, Manuel; niece, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Shirleen, Dawn-Marie, and John-Paul; great-grandchildren, August, Taylor, and Mackenzie and many others.
Jim was born in Puerto de Luna, New Mexico in 1930 and went on to join the United States Army at the age of 21. Jim also met Sally and married her at the age of 21, prior to leaving to fight in the Korean War. Following the Korean War, Jim reunited with Sally and continued to faithfully serve his country in the Army for over 20 years, to include Cook, Armorer, and Supply. Jim also fought bravely in the Vietnam War where upon his return, he was awarded many commendations to include the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for his heroism. Following his service to our country, Jim retired from the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class and went on to work as an Executive for Puralator, Greyhound, the Veterans Administration, and ultimately the Parks and Services Division in Belen, New Mexico.
Jim's life was full of gardening, laughter, joy, and family. His green thumb and love of gardening was what he loved the most, next to his family and the Lord. He grew cherries, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, mint, and many different vegetables to name a few. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cook, and teacher to everyone he met. He was always the light that entered the room and a rock for everyone around him. He truly was a gift from God to this world, and his big bear hugs will be dearly missed. But we know we will see him in heaven again one day!
