Jim Tom Hall

March 16, 1925 — November 3, 2021

Jim Tom Hall, age 96, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, formerly of Mexico City, Mexico, and New Goshen, IN, passed away peacefully at 4:45 MST, Wednesday, November 3, 2021, in his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born March 16, 1925, in Jasonville, IN, the son of Edward Eugene Hall and Hazel Vertis (Scott) Hall. He was their 3rd child. He moved to New Goshen, IN, at the age of 12 for his dad to work the coal mines.

Tom married Maria "Cuquis" Gomez Hall on December 4, 1968, in Mexico City, Mexico. They resided in Mexico City for over 35 years before moving to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, to be near their daughter, Yvonne, and her family.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maria; children, Pamela Kay Chattin (Bob) of Jasonville, IN, Ginger Ann Bobb of Jasonville, IN, Hal Scott Hall (Kathy) of Jasonville, IN, Dr. Yvonne Hall (Richard) of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Jeremy Chattin (Angel) of Stilesville, IN, Brandon Chattin (Juanita) of Jasonville, IN, Candra Pointer (Corey) of Jasonville, IN, Jesse Chattin (Erica Honaker) of Terre Haute, IN, Amber Hancock (Shawn Kays) of Terre Haute, IN, John Hancock of Jasonville, IN, Kaleb Hall (Elizabeth) of Warwick, RI, Lacey Peach (David) of Portage, IN, Levi Hall (Christina) of Jasonville, IN, Kelsea Nichols (Justin) of Citrus Heights, CA, Yvonne Hall, Bridgette Hall, Genevieve Hall, Richelle Hall and Richard Hall all of Rio Rancho, NM; 30 great- grandchildren, Joshua Chattin, Lukas Chattin, Neil Chattin, Autumn Chattin; Briley Chattin, Katelyn Chattin, Jamie Chattin; Alexis Brunson, Halle Brunson, Jolee Brunson, Andie Pointer; Jerret Barish, Zachary Kays; Makayla Hancock; Kaleb Hall Jr, Josiah Hall, Luke Hall, Evelynne Hall; Kacey Peach, Andrew Peach, Remington Peach, Maverick Peach, Colton Peach, Lincoln Hall, Eden Hall, Judson Hall, Valynn Hall, Kaden Nichols, Skyleigh Nichols, Lexi Nichols.

He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Graciella Gomez of Mexico City, Mexico
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward U. Hall and sister, Norma A. (Hall) Labanowski Polak; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; infant son, Jim Tom Hall II; and infant granddaughter Kasey Leigh Hall.

He attended Jasonville Elementary School, then graduated from Fayette High School in New Goshen, IN in 1943. Shortly after graduation he entered the military. He was a WW II Navy veteran and served proudly on the USS Gendreau in the South Pacific. He was part of the Invasion of Okinawa and saw 6 or more Kamikaze attacks on their ships. He was loading shells and saw the planes up close.

While living in Indiana he mainly worked underground coal mines and the Indiana Gas and Chemical Company better known as the Coke Plant. He enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to rabbit hunt, make his own nets and fish on the Wabash River and at their lake house in Mexico. He enjoyed his Mexico family, the many friends he made and the years he lived there. He loved being close to his daughter and her family in Rio Rancho and he enjoyed when his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren came from Indiana to visit in NM. He was quite the jokester with them and would tell stories and sing songs for them especially the Crawdad Song. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church of Rio Rancho, NM.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A family and friends gathering, and light meal will follow from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Westside.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd. SE of Rio Rancho, NM and interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe with a committal service and military honors.
