Jewell Donohue Speegle died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. She was born August 30, 1920 in Pawhuska, OK to Fred and Sylvia Donohue. Jewell was a long time resident of Hobbs, NM and raised her family there. She met and married her husband, Robert (Wink) Speegle in Portales, NM while attending Eastern New Mexico University. They were apart for four years during World War II, and after the war, settled in Hobbs, where they had three children. Jewell was the Children's Librarian in Hobbs Public Library for 20 years. When she retired from the library, she resumed her love of art and left a large legacy of water color paintings; some still hanging in homes and businesses in Hobbs. When Wink retired in 1996, they moved to Albuquerque and became long time members of Hoffmantown Church.
Jewell is preceded in death by her husband, Wink Speegle; her parents, Fred and Sylvia Donohue; son, Robert Dwayne Speegle; brother, Bobby Roy Donohue; and sister, Betty Jean Donohue. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Sekor of Seattle, WA; her children, Douglas Speegle of Albuquerque, NM, Dona Hampton of Kingston, WA and Richard Speegle of Durango, CO. She had six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Her services will be held Monday, May 9, 2016, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming. Friends may visit beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
