Jerry L. Silva, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed from this life on November 11, 2015 surrounded by his family and close friends. Jerry was born to Jerry & Lucille (Chavez) Silva
In 1942 and grew up in the Barelas neighborhood. He attended Coronado Elementary School, Washington Jr. High School and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1960. As a young boy, Jerry had an affinity for anything electronic and loved taking things apart and figuring out how they worked. Little did he know at the time that this interest would lead to a long and successful career in the field of electronics at Sandia National Labs from where he retired in 1998. In May 1964 at KAFB he met the love of his life, Dolores (Lollie) Gilbert. They were married at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in 1966. They were planning a trip to Hawaii with their family next year to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Jerry had an engaging personality, a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful smile and was an excellent cook. His family looked forward each Christmas to that special foil-wrapped gift of his "famous chile rellenos" and the Christmas bags filled with his homemade peanut & pecan brittle & chocolate covered toffee. Jerry had a wide circle of friends, especially close "buddies" with whom he met regularly for coffee and "guy talk" and he almost never missed a single Lobo Men's Basketball game. But most of all, Jerry cherished his family. Jerry was a member of Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church where he sang in the choir alongside his wife, Lollie. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lucille Silva and his in-laws, Robert and Margaret Gilbert. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lollie, his precious daughter Dianne Perea (husband Mark), his beloved grandsons whom he cherished, Dominic and Isaac Perea, who lovingly called him "Pappy Lou," his sister Liz (Silva) Gallegos (partner Stan Otis), his brother Geno Silva (wife Pam Phillips-Silva), his nephew and Godson, Joseph Gallegos (partner Patricia Jackson), his niece Kim Vigil (husband John & children Derrick (wife Markie and their son Oliver), Jeremy, Johnny, Andrew and Antonio), niece Lucia (husband Micah and children Eva & Levon),sisters-in-law, Roberta Baker(husband, Richard and children Shawna and Reed), Christine Fishburn (husband Bill), Suzanne Schoppe (husband Rick and son Eric) and brother-in-law Tony Gilbert (wife Candy and his children Shawndra and Andrew). Jerry left a legacy of how to be kind, how to love your family, how to enjoy good coffee, hot New Mexico green chile, and how to cherish the moments in life that are all too fleeting. Jerry will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. The rosary will be recited on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral mass following at 11:00 a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria NE. A private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
