Jerry A. Duran, age 93, long time resident of Tucumcari, NM, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022 in Albuquerque, NM. Jerry was born Friday, July 20, 1928, in Bovina, TX, to Alfredo Amado Duran and Delfina Virginia Anaya Duran. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary Stella Garcia Duran. He is survived by his children, Mary Frances (Joe Cremer), Jerry Richard (Candy Duran), and Louella Marie (Bruce Bogard); nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was a World War II Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 69.
Jerry attended Saint Ann's Catholic School and Tucumcari Public Schools, where he met his future wife. Jerry married Mary Stella Garcia on Sunday, March 18, 1945 at Saint Ann's Catholic Church. They raised three children, Mary Frances, Jerry Richard, and Louella Marie. Jerry and Mary were Mayordomos at Saint Ann's for many years. Jerry was a member of Saint Joseph Society and the Order of Carmelites. He was Lieutenant Commander of the Gl Forum and a Boy Scout Leader. He worked at the Port of Entry in Glenrio, City of Tucumcari, Turing Construction, Bradberry and Stamm Construction, Valley Gold Dairy, and retired from the Albuquerque Public School System.
On what would be his 94th birthday, we will be honoring him with a rosary and Mass beginning at 9 A.M. on Wednesday, July 20th at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St Josephs Dr NW, 87120. Following Mass he will taken to Tucumcari to be laid to rest with his wife.
