Jerome "Jerry" Turner Loomis, age 81, died on April 28, 2017.
He is survived by his brother, Lynn Loomis and wife, Louise of Albuquerque; niece, Brynlyn Loomis; nephew, Devon Loomis; and companions, Susan Walker and Beverly Whittaker. He was married for many years to Joan Brands Loomis, who even after the marriage was dissolved, remained a lifelong friend and confidante.
Jerry was born in 1935 in Eugene, Oregon to parents, Edmond and Helen Turner Loomis. He attended Barber Hall Military Academy in Kalamazoo, MI in his youth and graduated from Colorado Springs high School. Jerry then attended Colorado College, majoring in Zoology. He enlisted in the United States Army, after college, and was stationed in Wurtzburg, Germany. While in the Army, he sang tenor in the Third Infantry Division Men's Glee Club, performing throughout Europe. He was also the official photographer for the group. He used those skills to become the photographic engineer and tour guide at Sacramento Peak Observatory, Sunspot, NM. Following his years there he was employed by Ludwig Photography in Cheyenne, WY. After retirement, Jerry formed his own video transfer business. In recent years he lived in the East Mountains and served on the East Mountain Chamber of Commerce.
Jerry enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, tennis, and playing the ukulele. His partner, Allene Wood, brought him much joy during their years together before her death. Jerry was a jovial soul, an avid collector of gadgets, and a lover of the unique and unusual. He made many friends wherever he went.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of His Life will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017,10:30 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas, followed by a reception in the Lomas Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's name, to the charity of your choice.
