Gardner Scott, 95, a former resident of Rio Rancho, passed away in May. Gardner attended public schools in Kentucky, Morehead State University in Kentucky, and New York Tech in New York City. He served in the Navy during World War II, including two tours of duty in the Pacific. Gardner witnessed the Japanese Surrender Ceremony at the end of the war from the deck of the USS Wedderburn, anchored next to the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Gardner worked as an electrician for the N & W Railroad in Kentucky and West Virginia, and for Stewart Air Force Base in New York. His later career was in electrical equipment sales in New York and North Carolina. Gardner and his wife retired to New Mexico in 1988. They were members of Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church. Gardner was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Emma; his wife of 67 years, Irene; his son, Gardner Jr.; his brother, Kyle, and his son-in-law, Daniel. Survivors include his sister, Virginia; sons, Allan and wife Keri, Stanley and wife Jean, Jay and wife Pamela; daughters, Patricia, and Barbara and husband Walter. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 7, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at FRENCH - Westside. Burial will be Friday, August 7, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
