Lois Jean (Jeannie) Miller Cone was freed from the tyranny of Parkinson's disease, which she battled for nearly 27 years, on December 19, 2012. Born April 5, 1937, in Cleveland, Okla., to A.L. and Endinola Miller. Burial Services will take place at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, Lubbock, Texas December 26, 2012, 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE in Albuquerque on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Rejoicing with Jeannie in her freedom are her husband of 56 years, Claude W. Cone of Albuquerque; her daughter, Catherine Cone of Marshall, Texas; her two grandchildren, Lauren and Chase Cone of Albuquerque; her brothers and their families: Larry and Camille Miller of Albuquerque and Bob and Joyce Miller of Alpine, Texas; Claude's brothers and sister and their families: Larry and Jeri Cone of Lakeland, Fla., Terry and Joyce Cone of Portales, Jim and Carolyn Powell of Granbury, Texas, and Ray and Alice Cone of Odessa, Texas. Jeannie loved children and was an elementary school teacher in Texas and New Mexico. She especially enjoyed teaching 4th grade. She also taught in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, directed children's choirs and was active in the Woman's Missionary Union in churches where she and her husband served for a total of 28 years as pastor and wife in Texas-Slide Baptist Church, south of Lubbock; Central Baptist, Crandall; First Baptist, Howe; Parkside Baptist, Denison; Calvary Baptist, Lubbock; and First Baptist, Pampa. She loved music, especially hymns, sang in the choir and played the organ and piano. From 1985-2005 she was New Mexico Baptists' first lady, while her husband served as executive director of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico. She resumed her role of loving and supportive pastor's wife when Claude was called to be pastor of Monterey Baptist Church in Albuquerque in 2005. Jeannie's greatest love was the Lord Jesus Christ, whose love she shared everywhere she went. Her favorite hymn was "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," and her favorite Scripture was Psalm 139. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund of Monterey Baptist Church, 12501 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
