Jean Eleanor Bassett, AKA: Jin, Oma, Mutti, Mum, Old Mother, The Boss, and Big Jean passed away shortly after her 89th birthday on May 8, 2015. The Heavens must have been in need of an awesome Mom, to take her from us with such little notice. Born to Evelyn (McClellan) and Harry Young in Welland, Ontario, Canada, Jean lived a very adventurous life, including 25 years in Germany, where she traveled with her husband and daughters to places like Spain, England, France, Mallorca, Canary Islands, Austria, Belgium, and The Netherlands, before making Winter Haven, Florida her final home. She loved all sorts of crafts such as pottery, stained glass, painting and cross stitch. But most of all, she loved her family and always put them ahead of anything else in her life. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Don Edward Bassett; her three daughters, Kathi Jones, Christine Bassett Hughes, and Donna Dees and her husband Tony Dees. She traveled oceans and states to be at the birth of every one of her grandchildren, Joel Mason, Jeremy Mason, Jennifer Hughes, Eric Dees, Michael Dees, and Nicole Dees. Also surviving her are seven great-grandchildren. Her biggest joy in life was doing for others, spending five years as a volunteer caseworker for the American Red Cross. Jean was a cat lover, and leaves behind her two precious kitties, Max and Molly. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace our dearest Mutti, you made such a difference in all our lives and leave us with a lifetime of beautiful memories.
