Jean Smith joined the heavenly angel choir right before the eclipse on August 21, 2017 just 9 days before her 96th birthday.
Born in Oklahoma City, her home has been in Albuquerque since 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Smith; infant son, Howard Douglas Smith; and grandson, Jason Paul Smith. She is survived by daughter, Kaye Hunt; son, Sid Smith; daughter-in-law, Nancy Smith; grandsons, Devon Michael Smith wife, Annette Smith and William Stasey Smith, wife, Michelle Smith; grand daughter-in-law, Diane Smith; great grandchildren, Micah, Levi, James, Matthew and Alle Smith; her dog, Lulu; and many nephews and nieces.
Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and worked with her husband in their business, Billco for more than 50 years, where she assisted customers with interior design. She was a creative homemaker and gifted singer and artist. Jean enjoyed dinner, dancing, bridge and playing golf at Four Hills and The Albuquerque Country Club and was also a fashionista extraordinaire —many of her hand-me-downs are still being worn on stage at ALT. Jean served on boards of Southwest Opera Theater (president) and Albuquerque Little Theater where she also sang in opera choruses and decorated stage sets, as well as, singing in Central United Methodist and First United Methodist Church choirs.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 1, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central United Methodist Church Foundation Music Fund, at 201 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106.
