Age 80, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Rose Mary DiSanti Miller originally of Pueblo, CO; Jay D. Miller III "Sonny" and Judith Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Cheryl D. Williams of Las Cruces, NM, Cindy M. Vigil of Albuquerque, NM, Jay D. Miller IV "JD" and Paula Marquez of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, whom he and his wife raised, Charla L. Miller-Sanchez and Cesar Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Gladys A. Blea and Frank Blea of Albuquerque, NM; eight additional grandchildren and their spouses and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his father, Jay D. Miller Sr.; his mother, Alberta M. Spaniol Miller and his granddaughter, Michelle Nicole Miller. Mr. Miller proudly served his country in the US Navy from July 11, 1949 to May 22, 1952. His enlistment included service aboard the naval ship LST-859, first ship to touch the beach at Inchon during the Korean War. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and Navy Occupation Medal for his military service. Life after the Navy included various entrepreneurial ventures, which included owning an ice cream shop and a feed store. Mr. Miller's hobbies included clowning for the ELKS, spending time with family, watching baseball, raising various livestock, and serving as a licensed judge for the American Poultry Association. Of all the accomplishments in his life, the most important to him was the family he and his wife raised together. He was proud of each and every one of them and didn't hesitate to express this sentiment to anyone he came in contact with him. Your family thanks you for the gifts you provided each of us. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas with pastor Clyde Stanfield as officiant. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
