Jasper V. Marquez, of Santa Fe, N.M., killed during the Korean War, was accounted for August 9, 2019. Jasper was assigned to Company L, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action November 28, 1950, when enemy forces attacked his unit near Kujang-dong, North Korea. After the war, a returned prisoner of war reported Jasper died January 20, 1951, while being held as a prisoner of war. On August 1, 2018 his remains were returned to United States Soil, and were accessioned into the DPAA laboratory for identification, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Jasper's name is recorded on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu. A rosette will be placed next to his name to indicate he has been accounted for. Jasper will be buried in Santa Fe, N.M. He was the son of Domitilia (Dora) Marquez-Ortiz, who passed away in 1960. Jasper is survived by his half-sisters, Ana Bell Ortiz and Rose Mary Ortiz; and his nephew, Corie Ortiz. A service and funeral with Military Honors will be held on November 18, 2019, 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. For family information, contact the Army Casualty office at (800) 892-2490.
