Janis Moncrief

d. May 1, 2016

Jan Moncrief died peacefully on Sunday, May 1st, with her family at her bedside. She was born on October 21, 1952, in Clovis, NM to Peggy and Harold Brooks. Her father was a roadmaster for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. She grew up in Belen and Albuquerque and attended Manzano High School. After starting her family, she studied nursing at San Jacinto College and worked as a registered nurse for more than 35 years. She worked at the University of New Mexico Medical Center until 1986. She travelled internationally as a flight attendant for TWA, based in New York, for two years. Most of her career, since 1991, was spent at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas and when that closed, Clements University Hospital up to the present time.

Jan is survived by her husband Christian Moncrief; son Aaron Romero; daughter Jenna Henkes; son-in-law Judd Henkes IV; granddaughters Halo Romero and Lilly Henkes; grandson Judd Henkes V' sister Laurie Rogers; brother-in-law Johnny Rogers; nephews Joseph and Daniel Rogers; niece Amanda Weir; and aunt Myrna McPhetrige.

Jan's abiding interests included gardening, painting, music, interior design, cooking and her beloved New Mexico. She had a quirky fascination with forensic science. Many knew her as a gentle, but vibrant, outgoing, sympathetic and loyal friend. She had an affinity for all animals, especially her own lucky pets, and was committed to the humane treatment of all creatures. Family was the paramount focus in her life and spending time sharing adventures and affection with her loved ones was her first priority despite recurring illness and the ravages of surgery and intense medical therapy. She was a supremely loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. And she was adored.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Donald Holcomb and the staff of Unit 7C at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano for their compassion and professionalism in caring for our darling Jan in her final days.

Graveside service will be Friday, June 24, 2016, 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE.
